EPQ
What is the Extend Project Qualification (EPQ)?
The EPQ is a piece of extended work, which is worth the equivalent of an AS Level (20-60 UCAS points). The work is supervised by a tutor, but is undertaken independently.
The process of completing the EPQ is as important as the completed project and both are assessed. Therefore, students keep a log of their work and their meetings with their supervising tutor.
What Form does the Project take?
The project can take many forms, including:
- Written Report (for eg: extended essay or academic report, research report of an investigation)
- Performance
- Piece of Art
- Community Project
- CD, DVD or even computer software
Whatever form you decide on, you will need to complete your log, a written report and give a presentation at the end of the project.
Production Log / Assessment Record
Throughout the project, you record your progress in the Production Log, which includes the following stages:
- Formal proposal and approval from your supervisor.
- Initial idea and outline plan for the project.
- Record of research carried out and resources used.
- Record of advice and support offered and action taken as a result.
- Note of any changes made to your plan and reasons for the change.
- A review of the completed project.
- A record of your presentation, with supervisor's confirmation of relevant questioning.
- Reflection on the process.
Presentation
The presentation should be for a non-specialist audience and use media appropriate to the type of project. The presentation can involve the use of flipcharts, posters, OHP transparencies, Powerpoint presentaitons or short excerpts from video material. It should also involve live response to questions from the supervisor / audience.
